Account security

Email Policy

Starvine email is strictly transactional. We send it only to verify ownership of an email address or to help its owner regain secure access to a game account.

Effective 16 July 2026

Messages we send

A person must initiate an account-security action before Starvine sends a message. We currently use email for only these purposes:

Account email verification
A one-time code confirms that the person creating an account can receive email at the address they provided.
Password recovery
A time-limited, one-time code allows an account owner to set a new password after requesting recovery.
Account-name recovery
After a request, we send the account names associated with the supplied email address so their owner can sign in again.

To avoid disclosing whether an address is registered, the service may present the same on-screen response whether or not a matching account exists. Email is sent only when the request matches stored account information.

Messages we do not send

Starvine does not use account email addresses for:

  • newsletters, product announcements or promotional campaigns;
  • advertising or marketing on behalf of another organisation;
  • unsolicited gameplay or community notifications; or
  • bulk mail to purchased, rented, shared or scraped address lists.

Because these are essential, user-requested security messages and not subscriptions, they do not include a marketing unsubscribe link. A player can stop future account email by requesting account deletion through support.

Recipient consent and message safety

The recipient address is entered by the person creating or recovering an account. Security codes are short-lived, limited in use and stored by the game service only in a protected hashed form. Messages explain why they were sent and can be ignored if the recipient did not make the request.

Recovery requests are rate-limited to reduce abuse and unwanted mail. Starvine does not ask recipients to send a password or security code back by email.

Delivery quality and abuse handling

Production email is sent through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES) from the authenticated starvine.fi domain. We monitor sending results and keep the volume limited to actual account-security requests.

Hard bounces and complaints are treated as signals that further delivery to an address must stop. Suppressed recipients are not repeatedly retried. We investigate unusual bounce, complaint or request rates and can restrict the originating account or network activity.

Report an unwanted message

If you receive a Starvine security email you did not request, do not use the code. You can report the message to support@starvine.fi. Please include the message date and subject, but never send us your password or verification code.
